Current Projects
Our Current Priorities
Karamoja Children’s Link (KCL) is actively working to address the most pressing needs facing children and families in Karamoja. The following initiatives represent projects that are already being developed and that we are seeking partners and supporters to help bring to life. Together, we can make lasting change in education, child protection, and community development across the region.
School Based Educational Projects
We aim to strengthen education by:
• Providing books and resources to support school based reading clubs
• Constructing and equipping eight community libraries across primary schools in Karamoja
• Developing a central modern library as a learning hub for teachers and students
• Expanding our bursary and sponsorship programme for orphans and the most vulnerable children
• Supplying scholastic materials and assistive devices for children with disabilities
• Establishing mentorship camps to inspire and guide children in their learning journeys
ABEK and Village Based Learning
For children learning in remote villages and under tree community classes, KCL is working to:
• Distribute learning materials for ABEK (Alternative Basic Education for Karamoja) classes
• Provide assistive devices for children with disabilities learning in village settings
• Organise mentorship camps that combine learning, creativity, and community connection
Talent Development Centre
We are preparing to build a Talent Development Centre in Amudat where children can discover and develop their gifts through sports, games, music, dance, and drama fostering confidence, creativity, and teamwork
Child Protection Centre
KCL plans to establish a Child Protection Centre and Home for orphans and vulnerable children providing a safe nurturing environment that offers care, counselling, and reintegration support for those in need
Medical Support for Children with Special Needs
We are working to expand access to medical care and assistive devices for children with special needs and chronic conditions Each case is handled individually ensuring children receive the help and dignity they deserve
Climate Action: Plant 2 Trees Initiative
Through our reading clubs children are learning to care for their environment The Plant 2 Trees Project will equip young people to take local action against climate change starting with the simple act of planting and nurturing trees in their communities.
